Note: this reply is in response to my original email: In a message dated 2/25/2004 1:25:16 PM Eastern Standard Time, writes: Greetings! My ancestor, Marcus S. Nelson, served in the Civil War in the Army of the Mississippi, Western Sharpshooters, 14th Missouri Regiment, Company D. He was originally from Michigan, I believe. I am not able to find him on anyone’s Civil War soldier list and I’m wondering if it may be because the casualties were not recorded for the Battle of Corinth (where he died). Are you able to help me with this??? Thank you if you can!
Hello Chris:
He was a member of Birges’ Western Sharpshooters and I have him listed at this URL. I also think that they were attached to the 44th Illinois Infantry. Can’t remember right offhand; but, that rings a bell with me.
